English version retired

It's been very difficult to be able to manage family life, professional life and two blogs! You might have noticed already since I haven't been updating the blog for a while!

So, I apologise for all the English readers of Reparando em Tudo, but unfortunately I won't be able to continue posting in two languages. I'm adding a google translator tool to the blog though, so you can still read the Portuguese version of it translated into English. I know it's not the best solution in the world, but until I can manage to get my life on track again I will have to retire the English version for a while.

Hope to see you around and thanks for understanding.

XOXO
Vanessa

High heels in Barcelona?

After almost 15 months without wearing high heels (I've retired them temporarily when I found out I was pregnant of little M.), today I've decided to bring my camel sandals to life. On my way to work I remembered sadly why I avoid wearing high heels in Barcelona:

1. The side walk patterns (with all the little cute flowers and squares) destroy the heels
2. Twist your ankle is not fun
3. Looking stupid trying to manage your balance

I'm back

What better way to return blogging than with a Vanessa Paradis making of video for the new Chanel lipstick ad? She looks amazing by the way!

Summer holidays

We've been very busy with our 'little man' that next week will be 4 months old. I've been updating my mummy's blog regularly and I must admit that I haven't been able to do the same with Reparando but I promise to return soon. Watch this space.

It was a great and happy surprise to find out this morning, while reading the Spanish newspaper El País that the Brazilian director Walter Salles will start shooting the movie 'On the Road' in August. The movie is an adaptation of Jack Kerouac's book published in 1957.

Cook&Book

I was visiting my husband's family in Brussels and my father-in-law invited us for a brunch at Cook&Book, a great concept bookstore/restaurant.

The food is amazing, with great atmosphere and an excellent book selection. Cook&Book is divided into eight sections spread within three buildings each one with a different theme and design (music, cooking, arts, travelling, comic books, children's, etc.). If you are ever in Brussels, I strongly recommend it!

Adopt a granny that can knit for you

It's a real luxury to have a grandmother or a mother that knows how to knit and that have time to make your favorite scarves and hats for you every winter. So, if you are one of the average ordinary people like me, that don't have this luxury, you'll enjoy this great web created by Jérémy Emsellem called Golden Hook where you can choose a granny to knit your favorite scarf or hat, just the way you like it. Thumbs up!

DIY designer clothes now possible

Lika Volkova of Sans is a pioneer of 'sustainable' clothing. Her new project entitled 'home made' is absolutely fabulous: With minimal sewing experience (or simply hiring your favorite seamstress) you can buy and download the digital pattern / instructions of her designs, print them, cut and sew your own SANS piece choosing your favorite colour and textile.

Very funny condom viral

TBWA and Wanda Paris have provided another brave and risqué spot for French AIDS charity AIDES in ‘Graffitis’. Following the plight of a lonely graffiti penis who ‘can’t get no love’ in his local tag-laden public toilet animation king Yohan Lemoine mixes the right amount of humour with an important message to produce a funny and memorable spot. Swap homes???

Ok, so this service is definetely not for me since I do not own a mansion on a deserted island or hidden in the fields of Provence, but I found it cool and perhaps you reader have a beautiful luxurious house or flat somewhere in this world that you'd like to swap with someone who owns a property in Thailand or Brazil... who knows?

The web is very easy to navigate, visiting the photos of the properties is fantastic (makes you dream!) and membership is not at all that expensive: 225 UK pounds a year.

Hopefully someone will start the same business but with middle range properties, I'd be delighted to participate!!!

Favorite comics I

Every time I travel to Brussels I stop at my favorite comic book's store in the city center and I buy two or three books from authors I hardly know but that somehow grab my attention for some reason.

This Xmas I bought two books, kind of romantic but in complete different ways.

The first one is called 'Au temps de l'amour' (In time for love), from the Japanese writer and illustrator Yamaji Ebine. The drawings are so beautiful that they captivated me the first minute I saw it. I've read the entire manga on the plane on my way back to Barna. For a preview, please click here (bear in mind that you shold flip the pages from the end to the beginning, just like in Japan).

The other book I bought is called Rosalie Blum and it belongs to Camille Jourdy's aclaimed trilogy. The story and illustrations are amazing. I'm reading the first book entitled 'Une impression de déjà-vu' (A feeling of déjà-vu) and I'm already excited about starting the second and third books.
