New taxi project in SP to reduce drinking and driving

I've just returned from my three week trip to Brazil where I found out about this new government project called "Taxi Amigão" (Big Taxi friend) - a 30% discount on evening rides at weekends and bank holidays.

Usually taxis cost more at night and at weekends and bank holidays in Brazil. To incentive people to leave their cars at home when going out to drink and and to reduce the number of car accidents in the capital, the government of São Paulo has decided to create the Taxi Amigão. Drivers can choose to participate in the action or not. The main incentives for taxi drivers is to be granted free parking in restricted paid zones as well as special credentials for high demand events such as Carnaval, Formula 1, Reveillon, etc.

The taxis that adhere to the programme have a special sticker fixed to the window as well as a green light placed on the top of the car.

Tired of it? Recycle!!!

According to Fer and Cris, the girls from Oficina do Estilo, the secrect to dress well during pregnancy is not to shop at maternity shops (I promise that I've tried many of them in Barcelona and I can never find anything that pleases me) but to go to the shops that you are really like and to buy the right stuff that you might event be able to wear after pregnancy.

And searching their blog for more pregnancy tips, I found this cool post on online second hand shops in Brazil (known as brechós). There were so many links suggested (yellow pages style) that I thought of fishing some of my favorites and listing them here. Enjoy shopping!!!!

My favorite one, no question about it! The name Enjoei means
'Got Sick of It'.

Campana brothers for Lacoste

I confess that Lacoste was never a brand that really caught my attention, but I must admit that their 2009 partnership with the Campana brothers really impressed me.

All the shirts were made in collaboration with
Coopa-Roca, an artscraft cooperative from favela da Rocinha, a slum in Rio de Janeiro.

Sermoneta Gloves

It was a coup de foudre when I saw this store at the Linate airport in Milan. I had 15 minutes to rush to the gate and catch a plane, but I managed to enter the store, try a pair of purple gloves (just to confirm my size 7) and get a card so that I could remember the store name and shop online.

Great design, beautiful colours and excellent price!!!

Happy b-day Twiggy!!!

The National Portrait Gallery in London plays tribute to Twiggy, the British model who marked the arrival of the teenage revolution, encapsulating the spirit of 60s in London.

Leslie Hornby, Twiggy's real name, was considered the first top model ever, reaching international notoriety in 1966 when the Daily Express considered her The Face of 1966.

The display 'A life in photographs' opens on Saturday 19 September until 23 March 2010 and counts with iconic portraits of Twiggy in the early days of her carreer as a model.

Lagerfeld's Ballets Russes costumes

To celebrate my birthday and my passion for dance, I have decided to dedicate today's post to the beautiful work of Karl Lagerfeld who devised a collection of stunning light and fluffy haute couture costumes for the English National Ballet, that this season celebrates the centenary of Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The history of maison Chanel has always been closely linked to ballet through Coco's friendship with Diaghilev.

Lagerfeld's designes for the principal dancer Elena Glurdjidze in 'The Dying Swan' continue a tradition begun by Chanel. The tutu designed by Lagerfeld was made of 2500 ostrich and a variety of other bird feathers.

During the fitting session, Elena Glurdjidze dedicated an exclusive of 'The Dying Swam' to Lagerfeld, at the famous 31 rue Cambon store in Paris. Watch below the footage recorded by the designer himself.

The short of it

I was reading the fashion supplement in the Financial Times that this week has dedicated a huge article on the size of the Brazilian bikinis at the beaches of Ipanema and that in my opinion really didn't interest me at all (I really don't care the amount of lycra used to cover or uncovered Brazilian bums)!

What really struck me was the article just below... many of my male friends complain about how difficult it is for them to innovate with their outfits, a task many times frustrating and ungrateful. It's true that a lot has been done in regards to colour, tailoring, accessories for men thanks to the work and vision of great designers who opened the door to this fearsom universe so unkown and unexplored. Still, one clothing item remains a taboo after all these years: the city shorts!

In the opinion of many men, shorts are synonym of holidays, weekends with families and friends or even tourists. Gladly not for fashion designers Comme des Garçons, Giorgio Armani and Louis Vuitton, who see the well tailored city shorts the next summer's trend that is there to stay.

It will depend entirely on men if this trend is restricted to the catwalks or if it jumps to the high street... the first step has already been taken.

Women are Heroes

French photographer and grafitti artist JR spent a month at favela Providência in Rio de Janeiro portraying women and children for his project Women. These ladies live in a zone of conflict and most of them suffered the painful loss of a loved one as a result of the violence.

The project wants to underline the pivotal role of these women and to highlight their dignity by photographying them in their daily lives and posting them on the walls of their community.

Below are some photos of the Providência project as well as a video of the same project carried out in Africa.

Kenzo poppies celebrate summer

Kenzo keeps inovating following its concept of bringing nature into the urban space. In order to celebrate the summer, the Japanese brand invited French dance company Les Passagers to perform a vertical show in Plaza Felipe II.

The poppy flower - the brand's fetish symbol - will be the star of the event on 26 June. This is not the first time Kenzo chooses Madrid to stage an action for its poppy inspired fragance Flower by Kenzo. Last year, the brand installed a field of 80.000 paper poppies in front of Reina Sofia Museum (image below).
