To celebrate my birthday and my passion for dance, I have decided to dedicate today's post to the beautiful work of Karl Lagerfeld who devised a collection of stunning light and fluffy haute couture costumes for the English National Ballet, that this season celebrates the centenary of Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The history of maison Chanel has always been closely linked to ballet through Coco's friendship with Diaghilev.
Lagerfeld's designes for the principal dancer Elena Glurdjidze in 'The Dying Swan' continue a tradition begun by Chanel. The tutu designed by Lagerfeld was made of 2500 ostrich and a variety of other bird feathers.
During the fitting session, Elena Glurdjidze dedicated an exclusive of 'The Dying Swam' to Lagerfeld, at the famous 31 rue Cambon store in Paris. Watch below the footage recorded by the designer himself.
