New taxi project in SP to reduce drinking and driving

I've just returned from my three week trip to Brazil where I found out about this new government project called "Taxi Amigão" (Big Taxi friend) - a 30% discount on evening rides at weekends and bank holidays.

Usually taxis cost more at night and at weekends and bank holidays in Brazil. To incentive people to leave their cars at home when going out to drink and and to reduce the number of car accidents in the capital, the government of São Paulo has decided to create the Taxi Amigão. Drivers can choose to participate in the action or not. The main incentives for taxi drivers is to be granted free parking in restricted paid zones as well as special credentials for high demand events such as Carnaval, Formula 1, Reveillon, etc.

The taxis that adhere to the programme have a special sticker fixed to the window as well as a green light placed on the top of the car.
